Spot pointing for a few bad areas
If the worn joints are under a downspout or along one corner, we point just that area and match it to the rest of the wall. I'd rather tell you a small repair will do than sell you a whole house.
Crumbling or cracked mortar between your bricks? We rake out the worn joints and pack in a matching mix that's kind to the brick.

Brick pointing, which some people call repointing, means clearing out the crumbling, cracked or worn mortar between your bricks and filling those joints with fresh mortar. In Beaumont, it's how we tighten up brick walls and chimneys without tearing out good brick.
You've probably noticed sand on a windowsill, a joint you can scratch out with a key, or a crack running along the mortar. Most of the time the brick itself is fine and only the mortar is worn, so pointing is the fix, but a cracked or loose brick needs brick repair along with it. The price moves with how much wall needs doing, how deep the joints have worn, how high we have to work and how closely the mortar has to match an older color. The schedule turns on the size of the job and on whether your home needs historic approval first. I'll look at it in person and send you a written estimate after the visit, so you get your own figure instead of a guess.
I come out to look at the job myself, so the person writing your estimate is the one who's actually seen your joints. Our masons do the work, and I'm on site to check it before we call it done. Satisfaction guaranteed on every job.
Pointing is careful handwork, so I don't hand it to whoever's free that week. It goes to our masons who do it often, and I'm glad to show you past jobs so you can judge the joints yourself before you decide.
We're fully licensed and insured. On a pointing job our crew spends a good while on ladders or scaffolding against your house, and if something goes wrong up there, it shouldn't land on you or your homeowner's policy.
I learned the trade laying brick and block on new houses around Beaumont, then started this business in 2013 to work on homes people already live in. Call (409) 240-0376 or fill out the form to set up a look at your walls.
We reply to calls and messages within one business day, and the estimate is free, on site and comes with no obligation. Send a few photos of the worn joints, a rough idea of the wall size and whether your home is in the Oaks Historic District, and I'll come out to look at it myself and send you a written estimate after the visit.
If your home sits in the Oaks Historic District, which runs from Beech Street on the north to Rusk on the south and from 1st Street on the east to 11th Street on the west, the city's planning staff approve a Certificate of Appropriateness for all exterior alterations and repairs. The city's list names bricks but not repointing, so whether a pointing job needs one isn't settled, and you can check your address on the city's Oaks Historic District page. We tell you at the estimate if a job needs historic approval and help get it in place before we start, and we check with the office that covers your address.
Around Beaumont we see a lot of older brick homes where an earlier patch job used hard gray mortar that never matched, and chimneys where the joints gave out long before the rest of the house. We're based in Beaumont and do the same work in the cities around it, including Nederland and Port Neches, plus plenty of places that don't have their own page here.
Your brick needs repointing when the mortar has worn back more than about ¼ inch, is crumbling, has gaps in it, shows hairline cracks or has pulled away from the brick. You can check your own walls for these signs before you call. Photos of what you find help me see it before I come out.
Professional brick repointing across the US usually costs about $400 to $2,500 per 100 square feet. Where your wall lands depends on how deep the joints are worn, how high we have to work and how hard the old color is to match. I'll give you your own figure in a written estimate after I see the wall.
The best mortar is one equal to or lower in strength than your original mortar, meaning it carries the same load or less. A stronger mix puts extra stress where brick meets mortar and can make the face of the brick flake off, which masons call spalling. We match the new mix to the old one so the mortar gives before the brick does.
Choose someone with real repointing experience, because industry guidance says this work belongs with experienced repointing craftspeople and even an excellent mason may not be qualified for it. Ask to see past pointing jobs up close before you hire anyone, and look at whether the new joints match the old ones.
Mortar joints typically last more than 25 years, while the bricks themselves can go well past 100, going by national industry figures. That means the joints usually need renewing long before the brick wears out, so pointing is regular upkeep and not a sign your wall is failing.
Homes with a Historic Designation anywhere in Beaumont need a Certificate of Appropriateness for most exterior alterations and repairs, so if yours has one, check before any pointing starts. Planning staff can approve some requests, but a significant change may go to the Historic Landmark Commission, which meets monthly. Build that review into your timing if it applies to you.
Expect some noise and dust, because pointing is precise, slow handwork and getting the old mortar out is loud. On a tall wall or a chimney, scaffolding may stay up against the house for some time. Federal preservation guidance warns that power saws almost always break brick edges on thin joints like most brick walls have, so it's fair to ask any crew how they'll take the old mortar out.
