Driveway pavers in Beaumont, TX - a paver drive built on a base that holds

Cracked, sunken or tired driveway? We lay pavers on a compacted base, with drainage planned for your soil, built to carry your car.

A broad gray interlocking-paver driveway curves around mulched planting beds in a landscaped yard.

Is a paver driveway right for your Beaumont lot?

Driveway pavers in Beaumont, TX are concrete or brick units set on leveled sand over a compacted stone base, and on our clay, that base decides whether the drive stays put.

Most people call us when an old concrete drive has cracked, sunk or broken up at the edges, or when they just want something better to pull onto. At Ironstone Beaumont Concrete and Masonry, the price moves with the size in square feet, whether the old drive comes out first, how much base and drainage your ground needs and which paver you pick. The schedule turns mostly on the tear-out, any permit and the weather. If you're redoing the front of the house, a matching walkway is easiest to build at the same time. I'll look at the lot in person and put your numbers in a written estimate.

How we build driveway pavers that hold up

A paver drive is only as good as what's under it, so I plan the base and drainage for your lot before we talk colors. On the job, we break out and haul off the old drive, dig out and compact the soil, then lay the stone base in layers and compact each one so it doesn't settle later. We set edge restraints along the sides so the outer pavers can't creep, level a thin bed of sand, lay the pavers and cut the edges. Then we run a plate compactor over the whole field to seat the pavers before sweeping sand into the joints. Your estimate spells out the base and sand layers, so you can compare bids fairly instead of guessing what's under someone else's number.

A drive rarely stands alone. Where the yard sits higher than the drive along one side, a low retaining wall keeps soil and runoff off the pavers. If the brick steps, planters or house brick next to the drive are crumbling, our masonry restoration work brings them back, so your new drive isn't sitting beside tired brick.

Concrete pavers on sand

This is the choice for most driveways, because concrete pavers come in more shapes and colors than anything else and handle daily car traffic well. If one ever cracks or stains, we can pull that paver and set a new one without tearing up the rest.

Clay brick pavers

Brick suits an older brick house where you want the drive to look like it's always been there. We take more care matching color and size, so the new drive sits right next to the brick that's already on the house.

Paver border on a sound concrete drive

If your concrete is still solid but looks plain, we can add a paver band along the edges or a paver apron by the garage. It costs far less than a full drive, and I'd rather tell you that than sell you a tear-out you don't need.

Why Beaumont homeowners call us for paver driveways

I come out to see your lot

I come out to look at the job myself, so the person pricing your drive is the one who knows how it gets built. Our masons do the work, and I'm on site to check it, starting with the base before any pavers go down.

In business since 2013

I learned the trade laying brick and block on new houses around Beaumont, then started this business in 2013 to work on homes people already live in. After 13 years, I'd still rather tell you a small repair will do than sell you a whole new drive.

Fully licensed and insured

We're fully licensed and insured. That counts on a driveway job, because it brings a crew, heavy equipment and haul trucks onto your property for the tear-out and base work. If you'd like to see the paperwork before we start, ask at the estimate and I'll bring it.

Satisfaction guaranteed on every job

That's our promise. We also treat your house like it's ours, so we keep the tear-out mess small and the street clear at the end of each day. When you're ready, call (409) 240-0376 or send the form, and I'll come take a look.

What the city and the clay mean for driveway pavers in Beaumont

Beaumont's rules touch a paver drive in three places. On private property, work that disturbs more than 450 square feet needs a grading permit, and anything in the public right-of-way goes through the city's Public Works Engineering Division. Call them at 409-880-3725 for current details. A new or rebuilt approach, the stretch where your drive meets the street, has to be concrete or asphalt, so the pavers start where the approach ends. Hard surfaces also have to sit at least 2 feet back from interior property lines. If your job needs a permit, we tell you at the estimate and help get it in place before we start.

The ground matters just as much. The Beaumont soil series is a very deep, poorly drained clay that lets water through very slowly, and in a dry spell it cracks wide at the surface, with cracks that run deep. Not every lot sits on it, so I check yours at the estimate. On jobs here, we see a lot of old concrete drives cracked and heaved, and puddles that hang around long after the rain. We're based in Beaumont and do the same work in Nederland, Lumberton and the other cities around us. Each city has its own office, so we check with the one that covers your address.

Paver driveway questions we hear in Beaumont

How much does a paver driveway cost in Beaumont, TX?

Concrete paver and brick driveways set on sand in Beaumont usually cost about $13 to $18 per square foot, not counting removal of an old driveway. That figure includes a compacted stone base and a sand bedding layer. Brick runs higher than concrete pavers, and its price depends on the quality of the brick. Your own number comes in the written estimate after I've seen the lot.

Who pulls the permit for a paver driveway in Beaumont?

The city lets the property owner, a lessee or a bonded contractor representing them get the permit, so ask up front who will file. Whether your drive needs one usually comes down to the grading rule above, and I'll tell you at the estimate.

How do pavers hold up on Beaumont clay soil?

They do fine when the base and drainage are built for slow-draining clay. A paving trade group recommends drain pipes under pavers that carry cars on clay and other slow-draining soils, and it says the small extra cost comes back many times over in added years of service. Over weak or saturated soil, the same group recommends a stone base stabilized with asphalt or cement, which is worth asking every bidder about.

Are permeable pavers a good fit for a driveway in Beaumont?

Sometimes, but not over a high water table. Federal guidance says permeable pavers, the kind that let rain soak through the joints into the base, generally aren't placed where the seasonal water table is less than 2 feet down. They've been used near the coast on sandy soils in other states, so it's a lot-by-lot call. Where they fit, they're kept clean with regular sweeping or vacuum equipment.

How long does it take to install a paver driveway?

Most of the time goes into what you never see, which is the tear-out, the dig and the base. The pavers go down fairly quickly once the base is right, but rain can stall the base work, because soaked clay doesn't compact well. Once I've seen the lot, I can tell you what your schedule hangs on.

What causes driveway pavers to sink or spread apart?

Usually it's what's underneath: a thin or poorly compacted base, water sitting in the soil, or edges with nothing holding them in. Tires push pavers down into the soft spots and shove the outer rows outward. If yours are already sinking, we can often lift that section, fix the base and reset the same pavers, which costs a lot less than starting over.
